On May 15th 1956 Marina was the first born of Stan and Enid. Being the eldest of 5 children, 3 sisters and 1 brother, she set the standards for others to follow, and these were the highest standards in whatever she chose to do. Being a very intelligent young lady, she went on to working in banking, again leading the way for others in the family to follow.
She met and married Antony, her first husband, and had two of the nicest lads, one could wish to meet. After 15 years of marriage, Marina and Antony went their seperate ways, and Marina bought the two young lads up on her own, in the village of Braunston in Northamptonshire.
After many years of being single, and devoting her life to her two young boys, Barrie, making a career in the Royal Air Force and Kevin, becoming a chef in catering. Marina started working in a book binders in Daventry, Northamptonshire. This was where she met John Norbury, a man who worshipped the very ground she walked on. After a time of courting, Marina left her home in Braunston and moved to St. Neots in Cambridgeshire to live with John, his son Michael and his daughter Amy, from a previous marriage. They wed on September 9th 2003, shortly after Marina moved in.
Content that Michael and Amy, could look after themselves and take care of their own lives, Marina and John decided to start a new life together in West Lutton in Yorkshire. Marina and John were both very happy there. Marina transformed the garden better than any landscape gardener ever could, while John was at work in the day. She made a lovely home for them both, and her two dogs were the best company she could ask for. By this time Barrie had married Clare, and they gave Marina two lovely grandchildren, Shannon & Adele, whom she absolutely doted on.
On March 6th 2006, just a few months before her 50th birthday, Marina was called for a mamogramm, this being her first one. She was found to have a small lump in her breast, which was diagnosed as being a very aggressive type of cancer. Marina went through all the chemotherapy and treatments to beat it. Months later, following a clean bill of health, she took on a new lease of life, and tried to enjoy life to the full, with her beloved John, and the two faithful dogs.
Early in 2008, after having extreme pains, Marina had a body scan, which showed the cancer had returned, with vengeance. It had spread to her liver. She then made the difficult decision to forego anymore treatment, as good results could not be gauranteed. She spent the last few weeks of her life at home alone, with the man she loved.
Marina passed away at 5pm on Saturday 2nd February 2008 at home, with her devoted husband by her side.
Marina was a lovely girl, she was my niece.
I'm sure that everyone who met her will agree that Marina always had time for others, and all those that had the pleasure of meeting her, will have the same thoughts and memories about her. Marina was a warm, strong and compassionate person, full of dignity, that only others could hope for.
God Bless Her.
